A trip to Bursledon Brickworks

A couple of weeks ago my Mum, a.k.a Grandma Boys, and I took William to Bursledon Brickworks to have a look around.

Please take a moment to look at their website, this place has been run by volunteers for years and has recently been awarded some cash by the Heritage Lottery Fund to take the museum forward. It's such a pleasure to have a piece of history right on our doorstep, so for all of you locals please go and visit when you can.

There were lots of steam engines, tractors, old buses, cars and most importantly to William TRAINS.

We also went inside the museum, and absorbed a little of the information and history of the place. William was more interested in going back on the trains but he did take a look at the brickwork horses and model of Southampton high street.

As it was nearly time for Halloween, there was a make-your-own-scarecrow stall. I think we did pretty well...

We can't wait to go back on 25 November for the Winter Festival !

We even have a little video of Grandma taking over the music mans machine...!

Beach walks with Bobby

Bobby has FINALLY decided that he loves the water. Considering he is a Labrador, he has taken his sweet time!

The beauty of going to Cornwall in the Autumn, is that the beaches are clear of half naked people which means that my puppy (and my boyo Will) can run riot. I also don't worry about losing one of them, so can take amazing pictures of the boy like this...

Sorry to keep piping on about how great Perranporth Beach is, but it really really is lush! It's huge, has lots of rock pools, caves, and plenty of opportunities to get absolutely soaking wet. I don't think William or Bobby ever came back dry.

We threw balls for Bobby a lot...

We explored lots of caves...

We went on creepy walks on the beach when it was very very foggy...

Oh and William was on the constant hunt for 'creatures'...

All in all, Bobby had a great time on Perranporth Beach. He'll have to make do with Manor Farm Country Park for a while! Isn't he gorgeous...

A trip to Polperro

Whilst on holiday in Cornwall last week, it was Tony's turn to choose where we would head out to be tourists and allow me to take lots of photo's. He chose Polperro.

Polperro is a 13th century fishing village about 25 miles from Plymouth. You can find lots of information about it here. Tony used to go to Polperro with his parents when he was younger and has also taken me for a trip before we even had William. It is a very very pretty little village with lots of tiny shops and places to eat as well as lovely cliff top walks and boat trips. Oh, and lots of seagulls...

Like a lot of other places in Cornwall, you have to park in a car park away from the village and either walk in or pay a little bit of money for a ride on the tram down. The trams are actually old milk floats, I want to kick myself for not taking a picture of one - next time we're there we will!

On the way down, there are lots of lush houses to gawp at. Tony was starting to walk a slight distance away from me as he reminded me that I was taking pictures of other people's houses!

One thing I did get a picture of however, was of an old lady opening her window to feed the seagulls some breadcrumbs. Oh. The. Noise.

Before we stopped for some lunch we had a wander down to see the sea and spot some boats. William loved walking down some steps where the sea waves were lapping up, luckily he didn't get soaking wet!

We stopped for lunch at one of the many small tearooms, the highlight for William being a huge knickerbocker glory (you can find pictures of us scoffing it on Tony's instagram). Here are a few more photo's from Polperro. Another great day.

A lush family day

Yesterday we went to Lappa Valley Steam Railway, which has quickly become one of William's favourite places to go whilst in Cornwall. Of course it is... there are trains, canoes, woodland trails, crazy golf, play parks, a great little cafe and did I mention trains?! Team S would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Cornwall with young children.

When you first arrive, you need to buy your 'train tickets' (attraction entrance fees in adult speak) and you wait at the train station for the next train to arrive. There is a nice little play park there to keep the kids entertained whilst you wait as well as a mini woodland trail for older children - I think it involves a bridge over some water so not for the littles! Then the beautiful little steam train arrives to pick everyone up and take them to the main park. It's a great little ride through woodland and cornish hills, this time William was looking out for the Gruffalo.

William was in charge of the map and insisted that we head straight to the big slide which is located at the top of a big outdoor play park with a castle and diggers in a sand pit amongst other things. The slide is also big enough for adults! We had so much fun on the slide that we forgot to take pictures but we did get some of the other parts of the play park...

Tony likes to play golf every so often with Kev, so he couldn't resist giving William his first lesson on the crazy golf course!

We were planning on visiting the local Cyder Farm but were all so shattered after all of the running around and fresh air we decided to head back to the house for cuddles and a family film. A great day was had by all.

Where would you recommend going for a family day out in Cornwall? We come every year so would love some new suggestions.
